AUTOMOBILE MARKET IN RUSSIA, January – September 2017

 Russia’s wholesale automobile market up 14.7% in January-September 2017

In the first nine months of 2017, a long-lasting decline on the Russian automobile market changed for growth. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) grew 14.7% year-over-year to 1,256,719 units in January-September 2017, according to ASM Holding analysts.

 Car wholesales in Russia up 13.8% in January-September 2017

Passenger car wholesales grew 13.8% year-over-year to 1,101,688 units in January-September 2017. The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 232,547 units (21.1% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 687,827 units (62.4%); imported new foreign cars – 150,450 units (13.7%); used imports – 30,864 units (2.8% of the car market).

 Truck wholesales in Russia up 26.4% in January-September 2017

Truck market was the mostly growing sector of the Russian automobile market. Truck (including light truck) wholesale deliveries were 126,900 units in January-September 2017, up 26.4% on the year. Domestic-branded trucks took a 61.4% market share with 77,881 units sold. Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 16,226 units, or 12.8% of the market. New imports were 31,788 trucks (25.0%), and used imports were 1,005 trucks (0.8% of the market).

 Bus wholesales in Russia up 5.2% in January-September 2017

Bus (including minibus) wholesales grew 5.2% year-over-year to 28,131 vehicles in January-September 2017. Sales of domestic-branded buses continued to dominate the market with 18,803 units sold and a 66.8% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 7,549 units sold and a 26.8% share. New imports were 1,707 buses (6.1%), and used imports were only 72 buses with a 0.3% market share.

Russia’s wholesale automobile market up 13.1% in January-June 2017

During the first half of 2017, a long-lasting decline on the Russian automobile market changed for growth. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) grew 13.1% year on year to 811,518 units in January-June 2017, according to ASM Holding analysts.

 Car wholesales in Russia up 12.4% in H1 2017

Passenger car wholesales grew 12.4% year on year to 715,099 units in January-June 2017. The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 152,790 units (21.4% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 453,079 units (63.4%); imported new foreign cars – 92,529 units (12.9%); used imports – 16,701 units (2.3% of the car market).

 Truck wholesales in Russia up 26.5% in H1 2017

Truck market was the mostly growing sector of the Russian automobile market. Truck (including light truck) wholesale deliveries were 78,026 units in January-June 2017, up 26.5% on the year. Domestic-branded trucks took a 63.6% market share with 49,628 units sold. Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 9,504 units, or 12.2% of the market. New imports were 18,342 trucks (23.5%), and used imports were 552 trucks (0.7% of the market).

 Bus wholesales in Russia up 17.6% in H1 2017

Bus (including minibus) wholesales grew 17.6% year on year to 18,393 vehicles in January-June 2017. Sales of domestic-branded buses continued to dominate the market with 12,446 units sold and a 67.7% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 4,834 units sold and a 26.3% share. New imports were 1,074 buses (5.8%), and used imports were only 39 buses with a 0.2% market share.

AUTOMOBILE MARKET IN RUSSIA, January – December 2016

 Russia’s wholesale automobile market down 7.9% in 2016

During all the year 2016, a decline on the Russian automobile market continued as a result of downturn of the national economy in Russia. However, starting from Q2 2016 the rate of decline slowed down for the automobile market in total, while the truck and bus sectors showed signs of growth. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 7.9% year on year to 1,518,833 units in January-December 2016, according to ASM Holding analysts.

 Car wholesales in Russia down 10.3% in 2016

Passenger car wholesales fell 10.3% year on year to 1,323,978 units in January-December 2016. The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 278,060 units (down 10.4%; 21.0% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 796,461 units (down 7.0%; 60.2% share); imported new foreign cars – 229,644 units (down 23.5%; 17.3% share); used imports – 19,813 units (up 110%; 1.5% share of the car market).

 Truck wholesales in Russia up 9.7% in 2016

Truck (including light truck) wholesale deliveries were 150,414 units in January-December 2016, up 9.7% on the year. Domestic-branded trucks took a 72.3% market share with 108,771 units sold (up 12.5%). Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 14,158 units (up 39.1%), or 9.4% of the market. New imports were 26,387 trucks (down 7.4%; 17.5% share), and used imports were 1,096 trucks (down 60%; 0.8% share of the market).

 Bus wholesales in Russia up 23.2% in 2016

Bus (including minibus) wholesales grew 23.2% year on year to 44,441 vehicles in January-December 2016. Sales of domestic-branded buses continued to dominate the market with 32,514 units sold (up 22.4%) and a 67.4% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 9,594 units sold (up 23.7%) and a 21.6% share. New imports were 2,218 buses (up 29.4%; 5.0% share), and used imports were only 115 buses with a 0.3% market share.

Russia’s wholesale automobile market down 35.3% in January-December 2015

During all year 2015, a decline on the Russian automobile market continued as a result of downturn of the national economy in Russia. Cumulative wholesales of all type motor vehicles (cars, trucks and buses) fell 35.3% year on year to 2,554,429 units in January-December 2015, according to ASM Holding analysts.

Passenger car wholesales fell 35.5% year on year to 1,480,792 units in January-December 2015. The total sales volume splits into the market segments as follows: domestic models – 312,715 units (21.1% market share); locally assembled foreign models – 857,813 units (57.9%); imported new foreign cars – 291,901 units (19.7%); used imports – 9,563 units (0.7% of the car market).

 Truck wholesales in Russia down 35.6% in 2015

Truck (including light truck) wholesale deliveries were 136,012 units in January-December 2015, down 35.6% on the year. Domestic-branded trucks took a 71.6% market share with 97,328 units sold. Sales of foreign-branded trucks assembled in Russia were 10,214 units, or 7.5% of the market. New imports were 27,440 trucks (20.2%), and used imports were 1,030 trucks (0.7% of the market).

 Bus wholesales in Russia down 25.1% in 2015

Bus (including minibus) wholesales fell 25.1% year on year to 35,825 vehicles in January-December 2014. Sales of domestic-branded buses continued to dominate the market with 26,901 units sold and a 75.1% market share. The second biggest segment was sales of foreign-branded buses assembled in Russia with 7,772 units sold and a 21.7% share. New imports were 1,106 buses (3.1%), and used imports were only 47 buses with a 0.1% market share.
